GUTIERREZ

GUTIERREZ

Enrique Gutierrez, 79, of Johnstown passed away at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, surrounded by his family, on August 31, 2025, after suffering a stroke. He was born January 10, 1946, in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico, to Enrique Gutierrez Lopez and Florencia Reza Aguero, and lost his father at a very young age. This shaped his life, and he had great respect for his mother.

While growing up in Mexico, he went on to study architecture and also worked as a promoter in Juarez, Mexico, where he eventually met Irma Velia Herrera. They married on November 10, 1969, in Mexico and moved to Johnstown

in 1970.

Enrique worked as a farm laborer for a number of years and then worked construction, retiring as a foreman for Hensel Phelps. He was always a very hardworking man, never accepting handouts, and always providing for his family. He loved to dance, cook, and take in the excitement of the casino. Above all, his greatest joy was his family, cheering on his grandkids at their events, and lovingly caring for his wife, Velia.

Enrique was always kind and gracious, a great listener and caregiver. He served with the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he volunteered with the food pantry.

Thankful to have shared his life are his wife, Velia; children, Veronica (Charlie) Schlagel, Enrique (Erica) Gutierrez and Johnny (Faith) Gutierrez; and eight grandchildren, Jacob, Nyah, Colten, Leah, Lena, Aubra, Emry and Landon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Angela Gutierrez, Juan Gutierrez, Hector Gutierrez, Maria de Jesus Vargas and Jose Luis Gutierrez.

Visitation and Recitation of the Rosary took place September 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnstown. Mass of Christian Burial was September 5 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor. Interment was at Johnstown Cemetery with a reception following at Dreams and Dragonflies Event Center in Johnstown.

Memorial gifts may be made to “Good Samaritan of Loveland” in care of Young’s Funeral Service, 102 E. Charlotte Street, Johnstown, CO 80534. Condolences may be shared at youngsfunerals.com.
