Janet Marie Barker was born on October 11, 1935, in Longmont to Harold W. Anderson and Helen Marie Anderson of Johnstown. Janet passed away on May 18, 2026, in Onalaska, Texas, surround by family.

Janet grew up on a farm outside of Johnstown, where she loved to help her father with the outside work and taking care of the animals. She attended Erkenbeck Country School south of Johnstown through the eighth grade and then moved to Johnstown High School to finish her education. After high school, Janet attended the University of Colorado.

She married Robert Jack Barker on March 23, 1958. They lived in Greeley where they raised their four children until moving to Kersey, where they owned a small farm and raised many animals for their children to show in 4-H and FFA. Janet and Robert then moved to Evans when they retired, and eventually moved to Lumberton, Texas, to be closer to their children. They had four children who kept them very busy. Janet loved to attend her kids’ school events, 4-H events and FFA events, always cheering them on.

Janet was a stay-at-home mom until her kids were all in school, and then she worked at Balcolm Chemicals, was a short haul truck driver and became a Mary Kay Director. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Kil Kare Klub and The Greeley Saddle Club. Janet was also very active in the school’s Parent Teacher Associations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marie Anderson; her husband, Robert Barker; her daughter, Edith Oster; her brothers, Stanley and Glen Anderson; and her sisters, Mary Ann and Joan Anderson.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Barker and wife Linnette of Livingston, Texas, Karen Himmelreich and husband Wayne of Onalaska, Texas, Larry Barker and his wife Marie of Dublin, Texas; and her sister, Ingrid Neel and husband Steve of Wiggins, Colorado.

She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at the Double N Cowboy Church in Dublin, Texas, on June 13. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Greeley on July 18 at 11:30 a.m.
