MARTINEZ

Rene “Nena” Martinez, age 106, of Milliken passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. She was born on June 30, 1919, in Taos, New Mexico, to Jose and Geneva (Galvan) Nañez.

Rene was raised alongside her six siblings, forming the strong family values that would guide her throughout her life. She later moved to Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Salvador Martinez. The two were married on December 31, 1935, and together they built a life centered on love, hard work, and family, raising seven children.

A woman of remarkable strength and independence, Rene lived on her own until the age of 104. She worked in the fields while dedicating herself to raising her children, demonstrating resilience and unwavering commitment to her family. Rene was known for her many talents – she loved sewing, cooking, baking, and crafting, and was especially proud of her ability to grow anything in her garden. She was widely regarded as an exceptional cook, and her meals brought family and friends together for generations.

Rene was also incredibly resourceful and capable; she kept her own toolbox and took pride in fixing things herself. Her independence and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.

She enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center in Milliken and was honored to serve as the Grand Marshal for the Town of Milliken one year, a reflection of the deep respect and admiration her community held for her.
