Around Town

Sick of politics? Hard not to be, isn’t it? Well, here’s a local politics story that might make you a bit more optimistic about elected representation…. We noticed on Facebook recently that Charlotte Cohoon of Johnstown, a student at Pioneer Ridge Elementary, ran for Student Council. “I want to be in student council because I will listen to your voices,” she wrote in a post about her candidacy. “I will never give up, and I will always be positive. I know you all have great ideas, and I will bring them to student council.”

Some of Charlotte’s platform was to start a “Book Buddies” program at the school where older grades read to the younger grades. She also proposed “Mix It Up Days” where students would be challenged to sit with someone new at lunch to make new friends.
