LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

For most of human history, ordinary people had little say in who governed them. Kings inherited crowns, conquerors seized territory, and subjects lived with decisions they could neither approve nor peacefully reverse. Voting offered a different possibility: people could help direct their government. That possibility developed unevenly across centuries. Americans of today have inherited it, expanded it, and now bear responsibility for preserving it. Voting is an essential act of stewardship over the liberty entrusted to us.
