Around Town

Around Town
I think that I shall never see/A poem lovely as a tree…. Johnstown Mayor Michael Duncan and Councilmember Dee Anne Menzies were among those in attendance last Friday afternoon as Johnstown held a Tree City USA Proclamation & Ceremonial Tree Planting at Sunrise Park. The event was in recognition for 14 years as a Tree City USA community. Tree City USA is administered by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with forestry organizations. Communities meet standards for tree management, investment and Arbor Day observance. As part of the event, Johnstown’s newest tree (pictured left) was planted. “Johnstown’s commitment to trees, parks and public spaces is an investment in community pride, quality of life and future generations,” the Town wrote in a press release about the event. Thousands of books, sorted into over 60 categories, CDs, DVDs, records, puzzles, audio books and vintage books are just some of the things you’ll find to buy next week as the Friends of the Loveland Library hosts its 2026 Fall Used Book Sale. The event is being held October 23-25 at the McKee Community Building at the Ranch (I-25 and Crossroads Blvd., exit 259). Admission and parking are free. There will be a preview for “friends” from 3 to 7 p.m. on October 23, but you can join at the door, and then the sale will be open to the public October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. respectively.

We’re saddened that kids don’t trick or treat that much anymore in their neighborhoods. It was always fun to see the costumes they were wearing. And who among us doesn’t remember having a really cool costume, and then having our mom and dad ruin it by insisting we wear a coat?
