January 2, 1908 Editor and Publisher Herman M. Porter Another Teacher for Schools.
The Johnstown school is to have another teacher. Miss Maude McConnell will have third and fourth grades. This will reduce the strain on Miss Schull and Miss Ellis. Each loses a grade. Miss Schull had 65 on roll and Miss Ellis 50, so each can spare a few to the advantage of both teachers, and pupils. They can now follow the course of study as it should be done and will be able to give 20 minute periods for recitation instead of 10, as was necessary before. During the vacation the house has been thoroughly scrubbed and the floors oiled and everything put in good shape for the remainder of the school year. What was formerly the play room is to be Miss McConnell’s room, and it has been thoroughly cleaned, seats and black boards put in, and now presents an appearance equal to any in the house.
