It was a perfect early fall morning in Washington, D.C. – almost like Colorado. Cool air, blue sky, a hint of fall in the air. I was walking from my condo just two blocks south of the Capitol complex to my office when my chief of staff called me.
“A plane just flew into one of the Twin Towers,” she told me. Believing a horrible accident had just occurred, I hustled to the office and turned on the TV. Moments later, I watched as the second plane hit.
