Around Town

Around Town
Congratulations and thank you for a half-century of service to Larry Weber (center), pictured here with his family, who recently was awarded the Jim Young Lifetime Achievement Award from Front Range Fire Rescue. “With nearly 50 years of dedicated service and support to Johnstown Fire, Milliken Fire, and FRFR, Larry helped lay the groundwork for the organization we are today,” the department wrote in a Facebook post announcing the award. “From driving the historic department merger and pioneering our first paid-staffing program to securing land, apparatus, and expanded ambulance services, his vision has shaped every corner of our district. Even today, Larry actively supports FRFR’s mission, using his deep community ties to help pave the way for Front Range Fire Rescue’s future.” Got a picture for Page 3? An item for Around Town? This news hits close to the newsroom … congratulations to Lee and Wendy Montoya, owners of the local Santiago’s, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary on September 12. They have become a staple along Parish Avenue in downtown Johnstown. If you stand in just the right light and look at the sidewalk, you can see a trail worn into the concrete from The Breeze to the restaurant. Check out their ad in this week’s paper.

Downtown Johnstown is the place to be this Saturday, as the Johnstown Downtown Development Association hosts its Fall Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. This will be the last event hurrah for the organization as the town transitions to the new Downtown Development Authority. There will be food, there will be fun, there will be music and entertainment, and according to organizers, there will be about 4,000 of your friends also attending.
