Around Town

Around Town
Recently, women educators from Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (an international teacher organization) donated 18 backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to Milliken Elementary School and Milliken Intermediate School. Each year this is one of their favorite projects and signals the beginning of the new school year. Shown here are President Nancy Rippman with Margarita Marquez. Got a picture for Page 3? Congratulations to the Roosevelt High School FFA program, which last week found out it was rated a 3-star chapter, which is the highest rating an FFA Chapter can receive on the National Level. In fact, less than 10 percent of chapters in the nation received this designation this year. The National Chapter Award Program is designed to recognize FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. The local chapter started working on its National Chapter application from scratch four years ago and will be honored at the National Convention this October in Indianapolis and are also eligible for a National Premier Chapter Award as well as a Models of Excellence Award to be announced at the convention.

“We want to thank our amazing community for all your support!” the chapter wrote in a Facebook post announcing the award. “Our students wouldn’t be as successful as they were without your support at our events, donations for labor and silent auction, volunteering to help coach our teams, employing our members, and so much more!”
