Roosevelt head girls wrestling coach Anthony Sandoval has been incredibly busy this offseason. His mission? Increase both interest and participation in local girls wrestling.
“After last season I felt I needed to do something,” Sandoval said. “I mean our numbers are good at the high school, we’re around 18 girls or so in our first two seasons, but I was expecting a big jump in year two and it didn’t happen. In fact, in year two we lost some girls that came out that inaugural season, and we didn’t get a lot of freshmen to come out either. We need interest and we need participation to grow as a team and to reach our goals of someday being a powerhouse.”
