She steps up to the free throw line. Sweat drenches her Milliken Middle School jersey. She doesn’t look, but she can feel the hopeful eyes of her community. It’s a lot of pressure for a 12-year-old who just learned the rules of the game this school year. She dribbles the ball, takes a deep breath, and shoots her shot. Silence falls as the ball soars. It slides through the hoop, and cheers erupt from the crowd.
