Around Town
Congratulations to the Johnstown Police Department, which was officially presented professional accreditation by the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) March 16 at the Town Council meeting. There are roughly 232 police departments in the State of Colorado and less than 15 percent of these agencies are accredited. The Johnstown Police Department had to meet some 186 mandatory established professional standards and seven optional professional standards. The accreditation process began with a site visit in December. Preparing for the assessment required nearly 600 hours of detailed work led by JPD Sergeant Michael Timme. “Accreditation is very challenging due to how rigorous the requirements are.” said Johnstown Police Chief Jeff Strossner. “It represents more than a checklist – it recognizes the professional and ethical manner in which our officers continually serve the community.” Got something for Around Town? If you missed the Candidate Forums in Johnstown and Milliken last week … you missed out. Great turnout, great conversations about Johnstown and Milliken. We’d like to thank everyone who took time to attend and also thank the candidates.

We must admit we’re a bit disappointed to see the muddy social media footprints of negative politics showing up in our communities. Same thing happened during a School Board election a couple of years back. That’s not what our two towns are about. Tell us why someone should be elected, not why we shouldn’t vote for someone else. It’s ugly. It’s beneath all of us. And it’s just plain bullying. Maybe it plays in statewide or national elections, but (to those doing it) it doesn’t play here. We’ve already heard several comments from folks saying they won’t vote for someone connected to such destructive drivel.
