The 3A 5th ranked Roosevelt Rough Riders took on 8th ranked Thompson Valley last Thursday night in front of a capacity crowd at Randall Hess Stadium. The game was an important one with huge playoff implications, and judging from the crowds’ enthusiasm, they knew it too. Many fans also remembered last season’s matchup and spoke about it openly in the stands.
Last season this game was played on Halloween night. The Riders were in the middle of a tough season; they were playing for their playoff lives and the Thompson Valley Eagles were playing for the #1 seed in the playoff s. The Riders played their best game of the season that night. They even led late in the fourth quarter before giving up a touchdown that put the Eagles over 28-21. The Riders would go on to lose in the first round of the playoffs and the Eagles…. Well, they would go on to win the State Championship.
