Around Town
Theodore Roosevelt recently spoke at the Cliff House at Pikes Peak in Manitou Springs. While he was there, he had some time and caught up on some local news from The Breeze. Paul Herman, who took this photo, said, “Joe Wiegand is a Theodore Roosevelt reenactor. My family went down to listen to him and grab a photo of him reading the Breeze. He said, ‘Always proud of my Rough Riders!’” Got a picture for Page 3? An item for Around Town? Send them to [email protected]. Photo provided by Paul Herman

Many of you may remember that wonderful, lilting Southern voice that greeted you when you called Full Circle Veterinary Care. It belonged to Rachel Mahoney, and we are saddened to report she passed away this past weekend in Berthoud. Rachel’s daughter, Dr. Patty Mahoney, called to tell us the news. She said her mom was an avid reader of The Breeze until the very end. The last week of her life she wasn’t able to read the paper herself, but Patty said she read it to her.

Sniff. Steve and Mark and Ruby Spaur sent us this note this past week and asked us to pass the sentiments along: “ The family of Alan Spaur would like to warmly thank the Class of 1975 for the replacement of Alan’s memorial plaque from the old high school to his grave at the Johnstown Cemetery during their 50th class reunion. With the Lord but never forgotten.”
