Gas leak closes Two Rivers

Front Range Fire Rescue responded to a hazmat incident in the area of Weld County Road 378 just east of Two Rivers Parkway last Saturday. Upon arrival, crews found an active release from an abandoned gas well. No evacuations were needed, according to FRFR Chief Ryan Roberts, but the incident did necessitate the closure of Two Rivers Parkway from WCR 54 to Highway 60 and WCR 378 from Two Rivers to 65th Ave. while crews from Chevron worked to cap the well. Most roads were opened again by mid-afternoon Sunday, with the final closure being reopened Monday morning.

Roberts said the department had a similar incident about two years ago but said such occurrences “aren’t common.”
