Around Town

Around Town
Last Friday, Roosevelt High School hosted its second annual Work-Based Learning Career and Technical Education College, Training and Career Signing Day celebration. The event honored 38 seniors who have completed internships and career-connected experiences through Roosevelt’s Work-Based Learning program. Each student was recognized at a decorated table, surrounded by family, mentors, and staff. Many tables were decorated with RHS gear, photos, college merchandise, and tokens from their Work-Based Learning employers. “This event is a celebration of the real-world learning our students have embraced,” Jennifer Boresen, the RHS Work-Based Learning Coordinator, said. “It also shines a light on the incredible support our community and business partners have provided to help guide and mentor them.” Do you have an item for Around Town? The Town of Johnstown Police Department recently joined a statewide initiative designed to improve communication between officers and individuals with invisible disabilities or communication challenges called the Blue Envelope Program.

Created in Connecticut, the program benefits people on the autism spectrum but can also support anyone who may need a different way of interacting with law enforcement. The idea is simple: drivers place their license, vehicle registration and insurance documents inside a blue envelope. The distinctive color signals to offi cers that the driver might need more time, patience, or alternative forms of communication.
